Search tips

You can find information in the Practitioner Zone by using the keyword search box, or by selecting a subject category on the left hand side of the page.

Keyword search

When using the search box, just type in what you want to find (be it an organisation or service, or a publications’s name) and click on the ‘Search’ button next to it. A search results page will appear which lists all the matching records.

You can narrow your search results further by selecting a category to search within.

The results page

Once you’ve entered your search terms and clicked ‘search’ the results page will appear.

The results page lists all the records that match your search terms. The name of the record is listed, along with a brief description, and contact details (if applicable). If you have more than 10 matching results you can use the next link or click on the page numbers to see all the records.

If you want to find out more about any of the records listed, click on the title to see more details.

Subject categories

On the left-hand side of the Practitioner Zone pages you will find a list of the main subject categories found in the Practitioner Zone. These are the same as those listed in the middle of the Practitioner Zone home page.

Once you have clicked on one of these subject areas you will see a list of all matching records. You can also use the search box to search within this category (and narrow your search).

Improving your search results

If the results returned don’t include anything helpful, try changing your search terms:

  • If you’ve got lots of results your search terms may have been too vague. Try being more specific or adding more words.
  • If you haven’t got any results your search terms may have been too specific. Try removing one or two words from your search terms.

If you still cannot find what you are looking for you can try one of the following:

  • Choose your search words carefully. For example you may get more matching results searching for ‘nursery’ than for ‘nurseries’ (because ‘nursery’ will be in the organisation title).
  • Reduce the number of search criteria. Widening the search radius or removing the category may help.
  • Keep the search words simple. You don’t need to say ‘childminders in wood green’. Type in ‘childminder’ in the keyword search box instead to widen the search results.
