6th Form College
Programmes of Study are tailored to each individual and students can choose to follow from one of 3 flexible pathways. Courses and timetables are organised around their strengths, needs, aspirations and transition plans. Provision for each student draws both on the resources within school and on those of our outside partners, including local colleges. Teaching in the 6th form continues to build, extend and generalise students' literacy and numeracy skills
Physical Education and healthy living is encourgaed and students are able to join classes or use the local community gym with supervision. Those students who require therapeutic support continue to have access to the school based multi-disciplinary team.
We have strong links with Barnet College where students can take a range of courses, including A Level courses, NVQ and BTech Course or vocational courses such as construction, catering, media or beauty. This gives our students the opportunity to work part of the week in school and also attend college. At all times our students are supported to access their education which may take place offsite.
All 6th Form students are expected to complete blocks of work experience and this is tailored to their skills and interests. The experience helps them to gain valuable skills and understanding for life in the world of work. For some courses students are required to complete work experience blocks as part of their studies.
Students continue to follow life skills and social skills programmes. Each student has a nominated mentor who supports them. They meet weekly with their mentor to reflect on progress. All mentors have been trained in coaching and mentoring and use the NAS framework and Edward De Bono's 6 Thinking Hats in their sessions.
Our Careers and Transition Advisor works with students and families to advise on careers, work experience and further education. This feeds into key review meetings, such as at post-14 transition reviews.
